Rachael Leigh Cook was born in Minneapolis to Thomas Howard Cook, a former stand-up comedian and social worker, and JoAnn Cook, who is a weaver and cooking instructor. 2] She is of part-Italian descent. Cook was just seven years old when she was featured in a news announcement regarding foster care. At the age of 10, Cook began to work as a child printer model. It included national advertisements for Target and appearances on Milk Bone dog biscuits boxes. She was a student at Clara Barton Open School in Clara Barton, Laurel Springs School and Minneapolis South High School.
